Let’s talk about something nobody really warns you about when you fall in love with lifting weights…
Your hands.
When I first started training, I was focused on getting stronger, moving better, and challenging myself. Fast forward a few years, and between weightlifting, gymnastics, pull-ups, barbells, kettlebells, and endless hours in the gym, my hands were taking an absolute beating.
Calluses became part of the package.
At first, I tried all the usual solutions. Expensive creams. Hand lotions. Overnight treatments. You name it, I probably bought it. The problem was that most products were designed for everyday dry skin, not for women who regularly hang from bars, grip heavy weights, and train hard multiple times a week.
The result?
Either my hands stayed rough and cracked, or the creams left them feeling greasy – which is not ideal when you’re heading back to train, work, or simply get on with your day.
And let’s be honest… I still wanted soft hands.
I still wanted to hold my husband’s hand without feeling like I was carrying around a piece of sandpaper. I wanted to give him shoulder rub without accidentally exfoliating his skin in the process!
And for my beautiful daughter, I wanted to not feel afraid of scratching her perfect face while planting a kiss between her eyes.
So I started paying much closer attention to hand care and eventually developed a simple routine that has made a massive difference. And now, I’m sharing it with you.
My Personal Hand Care Routine
The first thing I always tell people is this: Don’t attack your hands!
Extremely hot water can dry your skin out even more (and it’s not great for aging gals like me where we’re clinging to ‘tight’), while icy cold water doesn’t help soften stubborn calluses. Instead, I use warm, tepid water to gently soften the skin before maintenance.
For particularly stubborn calluses, I carefully use the gentle blade of a disposable razor to remove excess hardened skin. If it’s simply routine maintenance, I prefer using a pumice stone or foot file to gradually work down the dead skin.
Important to note – the goal isn’t to remove everything.
Calluses actually serve a purpose when you train. We simply want to prevent them from becoming thick, rough, and prone to tearing.
Once I’ve smoothed down the hard areas, I wash my hands with Reps & Restore Sugar Scrub. This helps remove dead skin cells and excess dry skin while leaving my hands feeling clean and refreshed.
I then use the file one last time to smooth any rough edges before lightly patting my hands dry with a towel.
The final step is applying Reps & Restore Cream.
That’s it.
Simple. Effective. Consistent.
Why We Created Reps & Restore
The truth is, I couldn’t find a product that truly met the needs of women who train hard.
So I decided to create one.
I worked closely with a laboratory to develop both the scrub and cream, making sure they were specifically designed for active women.
We wanted products that would work a little harder than your average hand cream while still feeling feminine and enjoyable to use.
That meant:
- A scrub that effectively removes dead skin without being harsh.
- A cream that nourishes deeply without feeling greasy.
- A texture that absorbs quickly because life doesn’t stop after the gym.
- A light, fresh fragrance that feels clean and feminine without overpowering your senses.
But here’s the funny thing…
As soon as we started testing it, the men wanted in too.
Turns out, while we originally developed Reps & Restore with women in mind, it’s more than capable of handling hands that have spent years wrestling barbells, pull-up bars, tools, and life’s daily wear and tear. The subtle fragrance was intentionally designed to feel fresh and clean rather than overly floral, making it just as appealing to men as it is to women.
So whether you’re deadlifting, doing gymnastics, building a business, working with your hands, or simply tired of looking like you’ve been climbing mountains barefoot, Reps & Restore has you covered.
Strong hands deserve good care, regardless of who’s attached to them.
Strong, Capable, and Soft Too
As women, we spend so much time celebrating what our bodies can do – and rightly so.
Our hands help us lift heavier, swing from bars, carry groceries, hug our children, support our partners, and build strength that serves us every day.
They deserve a little care too.
If you’re tired of torn calluses, rough hands, and products that don’t quite do the job, I’d love for you to try the routine that worked for me.
Because there’s absolutely no reason you can’t deadlift, do pull-ups, and still have hands someone actually wants to hold.
